Abstract

Epidermoids, also called cholesteatomas or pearly tumors are a rare type of intracranial congenital tumor which may arise within the tables of the skull.
We have experienced a case of the diploic epidernnoid cyst which was successfully removed and confirmed histologically.
A 56 year-old farmer was admitted to our neurosurgical clinic with slow growing mass at the left paietotempor al area since 10 years prior to admission. On his admission neurological examination was negative except huge soft mass at the left parietotemporal region. Roentgenograms showed radiolucent bone defect at the left parietal region on lateral view and ballooning between inner and outer table of the skull associating with sclerosis of the surrounding of bone defect on tangential view
A parietotemporal craniectomy was performed. At operation, there was diploic cystic mass containing yellowish liquid and cholesterol crystal contents. Total extirpation of the cystic mass was successfully carried out. His post-operative course has been uneventful without aseptic meningitis, and there was no evidence of recurrence on follow up observation.
